Lokpal Panel members come under scrutiny
On 18th of April,2011 all the civil society members of submitted declaration of their assets.
But that fact was overshadowed by sudden appearance of CD which contained conversation between Shanti Bhushan, Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav. The conversation pertained to bribing one Judge and getting the verdict in their favour.
Shanti Bhushan was quick to deny the authenticity of the CD and filed a contempt petition against Amar singh in the Supreme Court.
But the matter did not stop there. Then came fresh allegation of Shanti Bhushan getting prome land at throwaway price from UP govt.
Then someone filed a PIL in Allahabad high court against Central Goverment to the effect that Central Govt has no right to constitute a panel that will draft the Lokpal Bill, where people from civil society can be a member.
Then Mr. Digvijay Singh AICC member, spoke against Justice Santosh Hegde saying that he was unable to finish corruption in Karnataka.
It was quite clear that a smear campaign has began to derail the process of drafting of the Lokpal Bill even before the process of drafting of the bill began.
And it is quite clear that the central govet and some interested parties are doing it by proxies. Basically they dont want that anyone else should tell them how to frame the law against corruption.
