The Ghosts of Purulia

The Ghosts of Purulia arms drop case are back. On the morning hours of 18th December 1995, arms of the nature of AK-47, Anti tank granades, Missile lanunchers , ammunitions were dropped from air by a plane which was piloted by one British national namely Peter Bleach, and 5 Lithuanian crew members. But the main accused, namely Kim Devy gave slip to the police, at the mumbai airport.

Those who were behind this crime had thought that the country has forgotten the incident. But today, out of nowhere, the main accused, Kim Devy alian Niels Nielson spoke directly to Times Now television channel, and accused that one MP (member of parliament) from Congress party was the mastermind. That MP allegedly said RAW was supporting the operation.

Peter Bleach supports Kim Devy:

The news channel also had Peter Bleach participating in the interview, where he supported the main contention of Kim Devy that the operation had the support of MI5, who had asked him to go ahead and keep watch on the operation.

Now, what Niels Neilson said may or may not be factually correct, but, it is true that:

a) The govt had received tip-off from MI5 before the arms drop (which happened on 18th of Dec 1995).

b) The radar on Kalaikunda Air force base was turned off during the alleged operation, and hence it could not detect the flight.

c) That several petition of RTI has been turned down by central Govt. without citing convincing ground.

d) That 6 police/ CBI official officials were reprimanded by trial court for destruction of evidence.

e) The accused Peter Bleach has been consistenatly been saying that he was an witness and was asking for an enquiry into the matter by a Judge of the Supreme Court.

f) That Central govt tried to alert the state Govt by sending the information by Registered post, which is the slowest mode of sending the information. The letter arrived in Kolkata 7 days after the incident.

g) That the CBI officials offered a peltry sum of Rs. 100 for recovery of each arms to the villagers, which shows their lack of interest. Hence many weapons could not be recovered.

h) Till now nobody knows who paid for all the costly weapons.

Given the circumstances, I can only say that entire thing smells of a bigger conspiracy, and a thorough re-investigation is called for.
