A Farewell to Hata Sensei

On Saturday the 9th of April 2011, we, the students of Japanese Language department of Bangalore University, other faculties of the Foreign Language Department and members of BNK, as well as many people belonging to Japanese community stying in Bangalore, bid farewell to our beloved Hata Sensei. Hata Sensei, or Mr. Satoshi Hata was one of the conerstone of Japanese community in Bangalore and one of the Principal Japanese Langauage teachers at Bangalore. He started the Japanese Laguage department at the Bangalore University. He started the Japan Habba at bangalore, and he founded the BNK at Bangalore. We used to have regular Koyo group meet, thanks to him. I clearly remember the Shinnenkai that we had this year on 1st on January, at his home, and the hospitality extended by he and his wife towards all of us.

Many people present at his felicitation meet remembered how he had helped them pass JLPT level 2 exam. How he helped each one in their time of need.

Hata Sensei told us that he left the job of 25 years, to become a teacher, and that he went to USA to learn teaching technique. He told us about the day that he came to Bangalore, driving all the way from Orissa on his car, to join the Bangalore University, and his teaching experience at the Bangalore University for nearly 7 years, his love for Bangalore and India as a whole.

Along with him, we also bid farewell to the other native japanese teacher at the Bangalore University, Sasano Sensei.

Hata sensei will be moving to New Delhi on another job. Life will go on, but we don't know whether we shall ever get such a great teacher again or not. I personally cannot think of the Japanese Language department without him. He was the main reason that I joined Bangalore University to study Japanese. I can only wish him all the happiness in life and success in his future endeavour.
