Death of the braveheart
As I mentioned in my last entry about the gang rape of the 23 yr old girl, today morning the news came from Singapore that she has succumbed to her injuries.
Now that the rape victim has died, it is up to us, those who are alive, to think how to take this agitation forward and awaken this sleeping government.
It is also time for us to think what preventive and punitive measures to take when we talk of measures.
It is time for the government to start explaining, as to why , after declaring a few measures(thru union home minister), it did not implement any of the measures.
Even day before yesterday, came the news that a young 17 year old girl in punjab had to commit suicide after police did not arrest the accused even after 45 days of lodging complaint of rape.
We need to ask the government why does the police not register each and every complaint of rape. Why do women and girls have to commit suicide after being turned down from police station?
And why even after registering a case, does the police not arrest the accused?
When shall we get definite answer from the government? We as common people have the right to know these answers from government.
May be the government does not have any answer. May be refusing to register FIR is birth right of the police and hence govt of the day doesn't have any answer. OR may be they don't have any control over police so they are mute. May be it is time for larger revolution from the masses.
The Government's immediate response was that it shut down 10 metro stations around India Gate out of fear, and deploy police heavily to protect those who are in power.
As some people observed, 'so the police is here to protect them from us? and then who will protect us from gundas and rapists?' . Right question. The answer is nobody will. Now it is up to us to protect ourselves. And we will chart out a course of action as to how to do it.
Jai Hind.
